You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more tranquil houseboat than the Queen’s Palace on the shores of Srinagar’s beautiful lakes in the north of India. Across the lily-covered waters and floating gardens, the lush landscape is a wonder to behold – and no roads or unsightly structures spoil the view.
Moored in Nageen Lake, the Queen’s Palace is a living legend, a wonderful antique, and as one of the original Srinagar houseboats it has pampered visitors for over 80 years. It offers a respite from the hustle and bustle – with its unbeatable views of the clean waters and mountains. As Queen’s Palace forms parts of a small family compound with a private entrance, there is no passing traffic, except for the rich birdlife and an occasional fisherman.
The houseboat has two en-suite (hot water baths included) rooms and spacious, comfortable living and dining rooms. All spotless, aerated and fully furnished – with clean bedding and towels included. Relax with a drink in the hand in any of the rooms while gazing out of the windows. Or pick a book from the bookshelve and retire to the balcony to unwind. Your host family will see to every need, and provides great Kashmir-styled breakfasts and dinners (also vegetarian), served whenever called for.
We will also help you with any tourist or other requirements in Kashmir, and offer a host of activities – from city tours and boat rides (in gondola-like shikaras) for the floating markets to trekking, white water rafting and fishing.
We are centrally located, be it from Dal Gate or the Old Town. Shops, markets, internet cafes and restaurants are located up the road towards the historic and striking Hazratbal Mosque – where a hair of the prophet Mohammed’s beard is housed.
We invite you to come and enjoy our hospitality.
